Did the tech install the correct capacitor?

  • Did the tech install the correct capacitor?

Tech installed an 80/10 capacitor into my 4 ton Lennox M/N 13ACX-048-230-10. It was the only one he had on the truck, so I suspect it isn’t sized correctly. What do you think? If it will potentially be harmful to my unit, I want to get the correct size installed.

  • Maybe you should call him back and ask if he can return to install the correct part. But if he was fine leaving the wrong part on, maybe not.

  • And what size was in there?

  • That’s a big capacitor. Can’t fathom it needing one that big, but really depends on the compressor and fan motor. What did he say?

  • If you look through the top of the unit at the side of the fan motor on the data plate it will tell you how many microfarad to the fan side of that capacitor should be if it says 10 then that’s correct and then if you can see the side of the compressor often time and read the required capacitor side although not always. If it’s not the required size the listed +or- 10% it should be replaced.

I’m tired of these mediocre “semi flammable” refrigerants. If we’re going to do it let’s do it right.

Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

  • A quick internet search, and itbcould be incorrect, shows a 70/10 for that unit.

He should return with the correct part.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to “Please Do Not Feed the Animals”. Their stated reason for this policy “… the animals become dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.”

Thanks. I’ll get in touch with the company.

  • Got in touch with the owner and he is having the tech come back and replace with a 70/10. He’s a nice guy, so I have no complaints.

Great to hear. It is hard to carry every part ever made. I carry universal capacitors for this case, but they are not cheap.

A little knowledge and there were probably enough to make one too get buy and come back.

Better then chance screwing it up.
